Before her career in family law, Ms. Diaz spent two years working in criminal defense where she handled a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. She vigorously advocated for her clients, drafted highly researched law and motion briefs, and litigated extensively. She now spends the remainder of her practice devoted to family law matters including child custody, dissolution, domestic violence, legal separation, and division of assets.

Ms. Diaz’s background in criminal defense and family law allows her to bring a unique perspective to all her cases. She believes in compassionate advocacy, which combines a client-centered, empathetic approach with focused and strong litigation. She values listening to her clients and providing them with a safe space to process their emotions. She seeks to understand her clients’ true priorities and help them move forward with their lives. As stated by a prior client: “Joy brought a sense of normalcy to my life that I lost for a couple years. Thank you Joy for putting my life back into my hands-my daughter will definitely know the impact you had in keeping me in her life.”

Since starting her tenure at the firm in August, 2021, Joy has litigated several high-profile child custody hearings and trials and continues to achieve favorable results for her clients. In January 2024, Joy was promoted from Associate to Senior Associate.

In her free time, Ms. Diaz enjoys spending time with her family, creating arts and crafts, and reading. She also loves watching basketball and is a loyal fan of the Sacramento Kings.
